Recipe :: Liquid Orange

My Angel Linas

If you like pulpy orange juice then you will love this. It is sweet and delicious, a great new way to make OJ in the morning and a serious punch of vitamin C. I made this with two exotic orange varieties but you could use any type of orange or even grapefruit. I was also thinking that this could be made into a great energy drink by adding a few Tbs of Performance {electrolytes} othe hot summer day. Ahhh...Sit back and enjoy!
It was a very, very hot week here in Chicago...
Have a great weekend!!

There's Nothing Like Australia

Sydney Harbour Bridge
My dear friend Aldona J. and her hubby recently went to Australia
Sydney Harbour Bridge is a wide steel arch bridge known for its beauty .
Magic View, Bravo Aldona, You Conquer the World!!
She touched my heart in profound ways. The Bridge Walk is a complete must - views are amazing and extremely safe. Secluded beaches, quiet coves and soaring headlands predominate this harbor, which is considered of the world's most beautiful.

All Vitamins are Not Created Equal

To supplement or not to supplement?
Contributed by dear friend Perla Erickson
Certified Holistic Health Coach, ADDP

"Drugs" are chemicals that influence the functioning of the body. In this sense, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals are in the same category as drugs. There is one big exception, however! Unlike drugs, vitamins and minerals are the building blocks of our cells, and they are needed for repairing and rebuilding of body tissues. So, if we want to stay healthy and have youthful vigor as we age gracefully, we must know that our foods deliver the quality and amount of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals our body needs.

According to a Rutgers University Study comparing organics and commercially grown vegetables, the amounts of vitamins and minerals in most fruits and vegetables have decreased over the years-- up to 38% fewer nutrients than just 50 years ago. Throw in the research which estimates that your average veggie travels 1500 miles before it reaches your plate, and the “loss of nutrients accelerates during food shipping, processing, storage and cooking.” The amount of nutrients left, if any, may be enough for short-term survival function, but not enough for long-term functions of repair and rebuilding.  Therefore, there is a clear need to supplement our diet.

Mark Hyman, M.D, asks: Does everyone need supplements? According Dr. Hyman, if people “eat wild, fresh, non-genetically modified food grown in virgin mineral- and nutrient-rich soils that has not been transported across vast distances and stored outside, breathe only fresh unpolluted air, drink only pure, clean water, sleep nine hours a night, move their bodies every day, and are free from chronic stressors and exposure to environmental toxins, ..then, perhaps they might not need supplements.”
Um, that's not what my life looks like!
(By the way, did you know that between 60%and 90% of cancers, heart disease, and diabetes are preventable?
Here's a 2 minutes video that explains why!)

This brings us to another question: Which type of supplement do we need, and how to choose? Our cells know the difference in vitamins that are synthesized in a laboratory and "the vitamins that occur naturally in fruits and vegetables.” Let’s look at the three types of vitamins in the marketplace:
1) Synthetic: Usual drug store variety, made from coal tar.
  • No enzymes
  • Man-made
  • Stimulant
  • Side effects
2) Crystallized: Usual health food store variety
  • Weak enzymes
  • Uses chemical and/or heat extraction
  • Stimulant
  • Imbalance
  • Harsh binders
  • Fillers
3) Lyophilized: Shaklee whole food supplements
  • Strong enzymatic action
  • Cool, no chemical/heating extraction/manufacturing process
  • Pure, high quality raw materials
  • Feeds and improves cell health
  • Balanced, whole foods
  • Contains essential unrecognized nutrients, phyto-chemicals
Ahhhh, that's more like it!
“At the level of molecules seen under an electron microscope, synthetic and natural vitamins may look similar to some
chemists, but they don’t assimilate the same way in the human body. Studies of both vitamin C and E show that the
naturally occurring forms are more absorbable by the body and more biologically active than synthetics.
” Matter of face, most synthetic vitamins E comes from an Eastman Kodak plant, where it is a by-product of
an emulsification process used to manufacture film. After purification, it is sold to the supplements industry.”(Gross!)

Eeewww! My "vitamin" comes from what?!

How to Get Pretty, Youthful and Healthy Skin?

Have Kim's Glowing Green Smoothie for the breakfast!
I'm a huge fan of the GGS. Purchase the ingredients for the smoothie from your Whole Foods or farmer's market. It's easy to make two smoothies at a time. Drink one, and keep the other one covered in the refrigerator for about a day. That way, you only need to make your smoothie every other day. From the book: THE BEAUTY DETOX SOLUTION, BY KIMBERLY SNYDER
Ingredients (32 ounces / 2 servings)
·      cup of filtered or spring water
·      3 cups chopped organic Romaine lettuce
·      3 cups of organic spinach
·      1 stalk organic celery
·      1 organic apple, cored and chopped
·      1 organic pear, cored and chopped
·      1 organic banana
·      Juice of ½ organic lemon
                         Optional:
½ bunch of organic cilantro (with stems)
1/3 bunch of organic parsley (with stems)

To make the smoothie:
Add water, chopped lettuce, and spinach to the blender. Turn the blender on a slow speed and mix until smooth. Gradually increase blender speed as you add the celery, apple, and pear one item at a time. If you are using cilantro or parsley, add it next with the blender still running. Last, add the banana and lemon juice.
I encourage you to mix and match your greens and fruit. Vary this recipe with kale, chard, arugula, and the like. Just avoid melons, as they don't combine well with other produce. Drink it about 30 minutes after your water with lemon, and avoid having any other foods for an additional 60 minutes after smoothie. You can share it with your family or friends. Which do you prefer, drinks or smoothies?

Positive affirmation for the day: Today is an amazing day to be alive. I am a constant work in progress. Everything is exactly the way it should be in this moment.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy,
                                                                  Linas & Lana

Live in the moment: When we live in the moment, we cannot dwell on the past or worry about the future. It is impossible to wish for anything else when you are completely present, happy and loving every minute of that present for yourself exactly where and who you are.

Positive affirmation for the day: I choose to be happy.  Your dreams will come true, and my dreams will come true- they are just spread out over time to keep things fun and interesting.
What a lovely way to start my day!!
